Smith & Mendoza Salon was founded in mid-2016 in Coral Gables by co-owners Jessica Smith and Jesse Mendoza. The salon is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM, and is closed Sunday and Monday.

Jessica Smith began as a hairstylist at a small Chicago salon after cosmetology school in 2003, then spent about ten years at Vidal Sassoon and later joined Saco Salon in 2014, where she traveled internationally with the Saco team. Jesse Mendoza has more than two decades in the industry, with leadership roles at Vidal Sassoon and Saco Salon and international experience in hair color. The salon describes him as a renowned color expert, and he provides both color services and education for clients and stylists.

Extensions are a current focus. The salon offers S&M Hair Extensions made from 100% human cuticle-aligned, double-drawn hair, available in 18 to 26 inch lengths and in any color, in straight texture only. Slavic Hair Extensions are also offered, made from human hair sourced from Russia and Ukraine that is treated or bleached, and available in straight, wavy and curly natural textures. The salon describes its Slavic extensions as the best on the market. The salon's extension work is Bellami certified and Polly Hair K-tip certified, and it also offers K-tip removal, weft move-up and tape-in maintenance.

Pricing for highlights, balayage and extensions is set after a consultation, and the final price is confirmed at that visit. Extension appointments require a 50% deposit when booked, which is applied to the extension application fee and is non-refundable if the appointment is cancelled or missed within 24 hours. Appointments cancelled or missed without a call at least 24 hours ahead carry a $50 fee.
