Angela Padgett opened Skin Sense in September 1991 in North Raleigh, starting with facials and waxing. Over time the menu grew to include massage, Ayurvedic treatments, reflexology, signature facials, a salt cave, microdermabrasion, HydraFacials and microneedling. Angela Padgett opened Skin Sense in September 1991 in North Raleigh, starting with facials and waxing. Over time the menu grew to include massage, Ayurvedic treatments, reflexology, signature facials, a salt cave, microdermabrasion, HydraFacials and microneedling. The spa says it has decades of experience in holistic wellness and describes its goal as giving guests a restful break from everyday stress while supporting whole-body wellness.

A visit starts with check-in at the front desk. New clients, and anyone who has not had a treatment in the past six months, complete intake forms first, so the spa asks guests to arrive about 30 minutes early to fill them out and change into a spa robe. Massages begin with a short consultation about goals and concerns. Enhancements such as gua sha, aromatherapy or a foot peel can be added when booking, on arrival, or during the appointment.

Amenities include steam rooms, locker rooms with full service, lounges for relaxing, and a complete boutique for shopping. A Himalayan salt cave seats between one and nine guests in zero-gravity recliners. Sessions run 45 minutes and start at the top of each hour. According to the spa, time in the salt cave may benefit breathing issues, allergies and certain skin conditions; this is the spa's own claim. Electronic devices, food and drink are prohibited inside the cave, and lockers are provided.

The spa states it has received reader-survey awards from several Triangle-area publications, including Best Day Spa and Best Facial. It also lists a 2025 Midtown Diamond Award and a 2024 5 West Magazine Diamond Award for Best Place to get a Massage. These are the spa's own claims. It is also listed as an NCBTMB continuing education provider, and holds North Carolina Massage Board Establishment License #273.

Treatments aim at relaxation and whole-body wellness, and many products and treatments are made with natural, vegan and eco-friendly ingredients, according to the spa.
