Skin pH began in 2010 with spa-style parties hosted in clients' homes. The business later moved into a small rented space off Cason Lane. In 2018 the owner acquired the house that became The Ruston, brought in a designer for the front rooms and renovated the treatment spaces.

About

The studio aims to offer professional skin care without a spa-style formality, in a welcoming setting where clients are not judged. Before a first visit, new clients complete an intake form and arrive 5 to 10 minutes early. First-time clients also sign a client consent form, and waxing clients sign a wax consent form. Scheduling, forms and payments are handled through Vagaro.

Brazilian waxing is one of the main services. The salon calls itself the home of the 7-minute Brazilian and credits its pace to skill and technique rather than rushing clients. Waxing is done with a premium hard film wax. Hair should be about one-eighth to one-quarter inch long, usually about three weeks after the last shave. Every body is welcome, and waxing can be done during a period if the client is comfortable. Brazilian waxing is recommended every 4 to 6 weeks. Skin may feel more sensitive for 24 to 48 hours afterward, so hot baths, hot tubs, saunas and tight clothing are advised against during that time.

Acne Bootcamp is a program that pairs personalized treatments with home-care guidance and a review of factors that may affect breakouts. It begins with an in-depth consultation covering skin history, routine, products, lifestyle and goals. Clients usually return about once a month for a professional treatment, a progress check and adjustments to home care, which includes Face Reality products. The program is not a replacement for a dermatologist, and the team may recommend working with one when medical care is needed.

Facials and skin care treatments are chosen by concern, such as breakouts, dark spots, fine lines, dryness, dullness and hormonal skin. Treatment enhancements such as professional extractions, high frequency, lifting masks and product infusion can be added.

Skin care is built around a customized plan for each client, delivered in a practical, low-judgment way without spa-style pretense.

Vintage details, warm rooms and real plants give the studio a homey feel.
