Dr. Deb Matthew founded the practice in 2006, and it now operates a Charlotte office and a Belmont office. The practice describes itself as one of the longest-established functional medicine and hormone optimization practices in the Charlotte area. It is not a conventional primary care practice, and it says it serves patients from cities including Asheville, Greensboro, Raleigh, Rock Hill, Concord and Huntersville.
The team is multidisciplinary, drawing on backgrounds in women's health, nursing, clinical nutrition and psychotherapy. The approach is to look for the underlying causes of symptoms rather than only managing them. Care starts by measuring hormone levels, replacing only the hormones found to be low, monitoring symptoms and side effects, and then re-measuring. Recommendations are individualized from health history, symptoms and lab results, and may include nutrition, lifestyle changes, herbs and supplements alongside or instead of hormone replacement.
A new patient begins with a free discovery call with a Patient Care Coordinator to see whether the practice is a good next step. The practice accepts only new patients who are ready to commit to changing their health. The first appointment includes health history forms, a review of medical history and past lab results, and a baseline health assessment. Out-of-state patients are asked to complete at least one in-person visit to establish care. Patients who opt in receive appointment reminders by text, up to three per week.
Beyond hormone care, the practice offers non-invasive to minimally invasive cosmetic treatments in its med spa, along with the Epionce skincare line.
The practice is not contracted with any health insurance company and does not bill insurers directly. It provides a detailed billing summary that patients can submit for reimbursement. Some advanced lab tests are not covered by insurance and are included in the programs. Hormone replacement prescriptions may be covered, though custom compounded preparations often are not.
Focuses on identifying and treating the underlying causes of symptoms, using advanced testing, hormone optimization, nutrition, lifestyle medicine and personalized treatment plans.
