The salon occupies about 1,600 square feet and is set up with two stylist stations, a nail technician room, a private aesthetician room and a massage room, so hair, nail, skin and massage appointments all happen in one place.

The salon describes its services as spa-level quality at prices that are not spa prices. Hair services include adult and child cuts, washes, sets, blow-dries, styling, perms, color, roots and highlights. Spa offerings include facials from a mini facial up to a one-hour deluxe facial, waxing, chemical peels, salt glow exfoliation and ionic foot detox. Gift certificates can be bought in the salon or by phone.

Shear Emotion takes part in local charities, school functions and fundraisers. Its main yearly event is Cupcakes for Cancer.
