Booking is by appointment only. An appointment is secured once the chosen stylist has reviewed the request and a confirmation text is sent. Shade Salon stylists are in Tuesday through Thursday, 9 AM to 8 PM, and Friday through Saturday, 8 AM to 4 PM, and are closed Sunday and Monday. Independent stylists set their own hours.

For extensions, the salon's care guidance suggests washing one to two times a week with extension-friendly shampoo and conditioner, choosing paraben-free and sulfate-free products, and using a shower head filter to limit mineral build-up and fading from hard water. Some sunscreens can shift extension color toward brassy orange or peach.

Some policies are worth knowing before booking. A $50 blow dry is attached to every service; clients who want to leave their hair wet or unfinished should say so before the appointment, and the fee is then deducted. Cancellations or reschedules are requested at least 48 hours ahead, and later cancellations are charged the full scheduled service price. Clients arriving 15 minutes or more late may be rescheduled at the stylist's discretion. A complimentary adjustment can be requested within 14 days of an appointment if a client is dissatisfied, though this does not cover a change of mind about color or extensions. Refunds are not offered.

Consultations come before color, extension and styling work, and in-house and independent stylists work side by side under one roof.
