Scorpio Rising N 25th Street

Scorpio Rising operates as a studio collective rather than a single salon with one schedule. Each nail technician handles their own scheduling and payment, so clients choose the technician they want and book directly through that person's Book Now button. The business has a location at 501 N 25th Street and a studio at 1921 W Cary St., both in Richmond.

The gel manicure menu covers two main options. The Signature Manicure includes trimming and shaping, cuticle care and a hand massage, and takes about an hour. The Gel Manicure adds the same care and finishes with gel polish. The gel polish is from The Gel Bottle Inc and is vegan, 5-free and cruelty free.

For clients who want more strength or shape without losing their own length, the Gel Overlay builds up thin or flat nails. The technician chooses a hard or soft gel during a consultation. Builder gel overlays soak off, while hard gel overlays must be filed off. Returning clients can book a Gel Rebalance, which fills in an existing overlay or sculpted extension and is recommended every two and a half to three weeks.

Extensions are offered as Gel-X, a full cover gel tip that adheres to the natural nail for added length, and as Gel Sculpted Extensions, which add body and length. The studio states that Gel-X lasts three weeks or more and soaks off in 10 to 15 minutes without dust or filing. Gel-X and sculpted extension sets are not bookable online.

Nail art is available in three levels: a basic single design, a detailed option with hand-painted work, holographics, glass nails, decals, stickers or nail jewelry, and a custom option with hand-painted, encapsulated, 3-D and mixed designs. Nail art can only be added to a gel service and must be booked with a gel manicure. Scrub and masque add-ons can be booked with a manicure, and Cat Eye Polish and repairs are also offered.

Please give at least 24 hours notice for cancellations. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice are charged 50 percent. A credit card authorization form must be completed before the appointment. Dip and acrylic nails cannot be removed at the studio, so they need to be removed before arriving.
