SBL Swank was started by Latasha Hughes in 2012 as a hair extension provider. Over time it added other beauty products, including edge tamer and mink eyelashes. The business says it became one of the more popular hair providers in the Midwest after 2015 and aims to be one of the leading hair companies in the U.S.

Appointments open one month at a time, and squeeze-ins can be requested when the calendar is full. Most individual hair appointments require a $75 retainer that is applied to the service. Clients need to complete an intake form for each appointment, arrive with hair shampooed, detangled and free of product, and paid in advance for lace and wigs. Extra people and children are not permitted at appointments, and large bridal parties should contact the business a month ahead. Cash and Zelle are accepted.

The business also runs a six-hour hands-on lace training class taught by Latasha Hughes. It covers lace frontal, closure and wig installs, bleaching, plucking, tinting and toning frontals, hair foundation, protection, cap technique, styling, lace application tips and baby hair for natural and exotic looks. Light refreshments and class essentials are included.

Product sales include Gold, Platinum and Rose Gold series hair, wigs, and extension products through an online shop. Clients who want to buy lace for an appointment can purchase the recommended lace through the business.

The business works only with HD lace and does not work with dark, gray or beauty supply lace or bundles.
