Salon Icon was founded by husband-and-wife team Philip and Jewel Foresto, who moved to Nashville from New Orleans before opening the salon. The business describes itself as a boutique salon and operates as a home for independent stylists, each with their own specialties and client base.

Stylists focus on personalized color, cuts and transformative styles. Work includes dimensional and lived-in color, lightening, low-maintenance color, extensions and hair for special events. Extensions require a consultation before booking. According to the salon, listed starting prices include a single process color and blowout from 200, a single process color, cut and blowout from 250, a lightening service and blowout from 600, a lightening service and haircut from 700, and a lightening service with base color and haircut from 800. Individual stylists list their own prices.

Appointments are preferred, though walk-ins are welcome when space is available. The listed hours are 10 am to 6 pm. Clients can find WiFi, a snack bar, and beer and wine during their visit, and the salon has disabled access. Clients are asked to give 48 hours' notice for appointment changes. Cancellations made less than 24 hours ahead are charged a 50% service fee, and no-calls or no-shows are charged the full service fee. Clients arriving 15 minutes or more late have their appointment rescheduled and forfeit their deposit. The salon accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, debit cards and cash. The salon is not listed as kid friendly, and English is the listed spoken language.

Each stylist works independently within the salon, tailoring color and cuts to the client and to the upkeep they can manage at home.
