About

Salon Drew opened in Los Alamitos in 2014 with nine stations, named after the owners' daughter. It moved to the Long Beach Exchange in 2020 into a space of about 3,000 square feet. The salon is owned and operated by Scott and Michelle Shelton, and Michelle has promoted a guest-first approach in Long Beach since 1994. The business has been part of the Long Beach community for more than two decades.

The salon says its process starts with learning about each guest's lifestyle, goals and hair texture before choosing a service. Its haircut menu includes a 60-minute cut and blowout, a 45-minute cut using clipper and scissor over comb techniques, and haircuts for children under 12. Color ranges from base color used on the roots to full highlights and customized blends of balayage, foiling and toning.

Styling and treatment options include luxury and shampoo blowouts, straightening with Keratin and Kerasilk formulas, and R+Co or Oribe treatments tailored to each client's hair. Two pre-treatments are also offered: a Metal Detox Treatment, used before color, balayage or lightening to reduce metals in the hair, and an Olaplex or K18 bond-building treatment. Extensions are available by tape-in, weft and beaded methods, and sew-in weave requires a consultation before booking.

Stylists are offered more than 20 advanced cutting and coloring classes a year. Education is run from Dean Anthony Salon + Academy, which serves as the education hub for both salons, and the yearly education calendar is set in advance by the in-house artistic team with five to seven national educators brought in annually. Associates take monthly training in balayage, foiliage and precision cutting.

Prices are set by a level system that reflects a stylist's experience, education and demand. Reservations require a credit card on file, stored in a secure system. Cancellations or reschedules need at least 48 hours notice, and a missed window results in a charge of 50 percent of the total service cost. Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and Apple Pay are accepted, and credit card payments carry a 2.6 percent processing fee, while debit cards and cash do not.

The salon starts each visit by listening to a guest's lifestyle, goals and hair texture, and states its promise as consistent quality and service held to high business standards.

The Long Beach Exchange space has plants throughout.
