The resort sits on 22 acres overlooking Old Tampa Bay, within walking distance of the shops, restaurants and entertainment in downtown Safety Harbor. It has 172 guest rooms and suites and is part of the Trademark Collection by Wyndham. The U.S. Department of the Interior designated it a Historical Landmark in 1964, and it became a Florida Heritage Landmark in 1997.
The spa traces its mineral springs to 1925, when the natural mineral springs spa was first established on the property. The resort credits Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto with reaching the area in 1539 and finding the springs later named Espiritu Santo Springs. That spring water feeds the pools and is served with meals and at water stations around the resort, and the resort says it is Florida's only natural mineral springs spa.
The spa and fitness center covers about 50,000 square feet, which the resort says was recently renovated. The spa has 30 treatment rooms, separate men's and women's bath and shower facilities, an indoor pool, a ladies' plunge pool, an outdoor lap pool, whirlpools, steam rooms and a sauna. The fitness side has separate cardio and weight rooms, a Pilates studio and roughly 78 classes a week, including yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates and SPIN, plus aqua yoga and personal training on land or in water.
The salon side is handled in-house as well. The beauty salon offers makeup, a personalized makeup lesson and waxing from brows to legs, while the hair salon offers coloring, cutting, styling and special-event up-dos. The nail salon offers manicures, pedicures and gel or dip options, but does not provide acrylic services.
Spa visits are by advance reservation only, and walk-ins are not accepted. Appointments can be booked online or by phone, and services must be secured with a credit card at booking. An 18 percent service charge is applied when a service is completed, and prices exclude applicable taxes. Spa guests can use the resort's amenities for the whole day and are given a robe. Guests must be 16 or older to use the spa and fitness areas, and guests with limited mobility need to bring a caregiver, since spa providers cannot assist them.
Events are a large part of the property. Its planners and onsite culinary team can handle catering, audio/visual needs and custom menus for weddings, quinceañeras and corporate gatherings.
The spa is built around the resort's own mineral springs, with Eminence Organic Skin Care used across facials and treatments. Fitness and wellness programs can be tailored to the individual or to a group.
Set on the Tampa Bay waterfront among palm trees and fountains, with a historic, Old-World character.
