Rustic Mane is run by Stephanie Nelson, who works alone with each client in a personal setting rather than through a larger team. The salon is in a suite at 4315 Piedmont Ave in Oakland, and Stephanie began working independently there in June 2024.

Her training began at Elite Progressive School of Cosmetology in an extended program, and her career started with a two-year apprenticeship in Berkeley that launched her as an East Bay stylist. She has also served as Lead Instructor in a salon apprenticeship program and has taught for Milan Institute and Marinello Schools of Beauty. Creative color and cutting across a range of textures, from thick and curly to fine and straight, are her main areas.

Haircuts cover women's, men's and non-binary clients. Transformation cuts and extra thick or extra long cuts need an extended appointment, so those are booked with that time in mind. Color work includes single process color, balayage and highlights, global lightening, and color correction and fashion shades, which both start with an in-person consultation before booking. Treatments include conditioning, scalp treatment and split end treatment. Adjustments should be requested within 7 days of the visit, and changes outside the original consultation may carry extra cost.

Each service is built around the individual client, with the aim of a style that holds up and fits their hair and daily needs.
