The Hair Cafe is based in Joliet, Illinois, and has a second location in Cresthill. Robyn Booker became its owner in 2004, after several years at another local salon, and still works as a stylist there.

The menu is broad. It covers relaxed and natural hair, color and highlights, silk presses and finger waves, and a wide range of extensions from simple sew-ins and microlinks to K-tip installations. Wig services range from knot bleaching and glueless lace wig installs to full lace wig installation, and quickweaves and lace frontals are a large part of the work.

Each service includes a shampoo and conditioner. At the Joliet location the salon is on the first floor, inside the building to the left, with parking on the side of the building and access for people with disabilities. Children and extra guests are not allowed unless they are being serviced. Clients are asked to give 24 hours' notice for cancellations, and a $25 fee applies to late cancellations and no-shows.

The salon also runs courses for professionals, including permanent color, quickweave, sew-in extensions, dreadlock training, natural hair, custom wig units and short lace frontals, plus one-on-one career training offered on Mondays. Products are available through an online shop, and service packages can be bought in bulk and used at any time.
