Onyx on Madison

Onyx on Madison opened in 2021, founded by Daniel Mora and Chaie de Jesus, who both describe themselves as industry veterans. They opened the salon together after the shutdowns of the 2020 pandemic. The salon is on the second floor in the Playhouse Village area of Pasadena.

Appointments start with a consultation in which the team learns about each client's lifestyle, preferences and long-term hair goals. The salon says it puts thoughtful consultations and precision ahead of speed, and aims for a personalized, welcoming visit where clients feel good about how they look. The space is polished and design-forward, and the salon calls it warm and comfortable. Stylists regularly take advanced and ongoing education, and the salon describes itself as client focused and education driven.

Cancellations or rescheduling need at least 48 hours' notice. Inside 48 hours the fee is 50% of the scheduled service, and same-day cancellations, late cancellations under 24 hours and missed appointments are charged the full service. The salon accepts cash and major credit cards, and some stylists accept Venmo or Zelle. Cash tips are accepted and preferred by the artists. Well-behaved pets are welcome to come along. Free two-hour street parking is available nearby, metered parking is on Green Street, and several nearby lots charge $6 to $8 a day for longer appointments.
