About

One Brooklyn Health is a health system based in Brooklyn, and its administrative offices are at One Brookdale Plaza. The system describes its purpose as healing the sick, encouraging good health and improving care for Brooklyn communities. The site says the system has served Brooklyn for 300 years, lists 550 board-certified providers, 79 specialty health services and 7,000 employees; these are the system's own figures.

Brookdale began in 1921 as the Brownsville and East New York Hospital, which opened in a single 75-bed building. It was renamed Beth-El Hospital in 1932, became Brookdale Hospital in 1963, and took the name Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in 1971. It joined One Brooklyn Health in 2016. Today the hospital has 530 acute-care beds, and it reports more than 50 specialty centers. The Radutzky Emergency Care Pavilion received Level I trauma center designation in 1982 and is now a Level II center. The hospital became a 911 receiving Stroke Center in 2005.

Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center traces its start to the mid-1920s, when it operated as the Home for the Incurables. It took its current name in 1968. The David Minkin Rehabilitation Institute is housed there and treats neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. The Isaac Albert Institute has contributed research on the prenatal diagnosis of Tay-Sachs disease. Both Kingsbrook and Rutland Nursing Home hold Joint Commission accreditation. The system plans to convert Kingsbrook into a Medical Village that would offer post-acute and specialized ambulatory care.

Interfaith Medical Center was created in 1982 through a merger of Brooklyn Jewish Hospital and Medical Center in Crown Heights with St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Bedford-Stuyvesant. As a teaching hospital, it runs four graduate medical education residency programs and fellowships in pulmonary medicine, cardiology and gastroenterology. It also serves as a safety-net hospital for its community. With 287 beds, it handles a heavy load of outpatient and emergency care.

Patients can reach their records and care through the MyChart patient portal on a tablet, phone or computer. Outpatient care is spread across many OBH clinics, including primary care family care centers, a women's health center, a breast center, an urgent care center and a behavioral health clinic, so visits often happen closer to home.

The system describes its purpose as healing the sick, encouraging good health and improving care for Brooklyn communities, and it describes its primary care as a core strength.
