Onceuponafro is a braiding and hair studio in Suite 113 of a building on South Boulevard in Charlotte. The menu is built around protective styles: several sizes of knotless braids, box braids, feed-in braids, cornrows, crochet braids, and twist sets, plus natural rod sets and silk presses for clients who want a smooth finish. Gray coverage is offered as a color add-on for root retouches.

Most braid services include a shampoo and blowdry and the hair itself, with prices starting around $85 to $175 for smaller and mid-length styles and rising for large or long installs. Mid-back length is the reference point for several listings. Longer or heavier styles such as Jumbo Knotless Braids, Large Knotless Braids, and Boho Medium Knotless Braids are priced higher, and the Thick Hair Fee applies to thick or long hair past shoulder length. Double Dutch Braids cannot be booked for thick hair.

Add-ons can be combined with a main service. A deep condition includes a hydrating steam, a scalp care treatment is a separate hour-long add-on, a honey hair mask is offered for dry hair, and an end trim can be added to a service but not booked alone. The business also offers a Knotless or Box Braid Takedown for braids it installed itself, and a Kid's Braid Takedown for children's braids, which requires a shampoo service if no new style is wanted.

Children have their own options. Kid's Braids + Beads includes a shampoo, blowdry, and clear beads and runs at least three hours; soft beads are available for an extra $15. Kid's Specialty Booking is by request only, runs about four and a half hours, and requires a $100 deposit from new clients. Specialty Style is also by request only, with a $50 deposit for new clients.

A free consultation called Let's Talk is available for questions before booking or for styles not on the menu. Length and density consultations are done in person only. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10 AM to 2 PM, Saturday from 9 AM to 8 PM, and Sunday from 8 AM to 7 PM. Appointments cancelled within 48 hours of the scheduled time are charged a 50% fee, and no-call/no-show appointments are charged the full service total, with the client banned from future booking. Twelve payment options are accepted.
