The salon takes its name from an ancient Nahuatl word that refers to movement, transformation and constant change. Johnny Ramirez is its founder and creative director, and the salon credits him with coining the term lived-in color.

Lived-in color, as the salon describes it, is soft, hand-painted color with seamless gradations that grows out without a harsh regrowth line. Color appointments can run several hours, so clients are asked to request a blow-dry and style at the time they book a color service.

The salon has three studios, in Beverly Hills, New York and Miami, and its About page lists 20 artists across them. The salon says every artist on the team is trained to one standard. Redken has announced Johnny Ramirez as a brand ambassador. Press features listed on the site include InStyle, Allure, Vogue Spain, Marie Claire and Teen Vogue.

Bridal trials with the stylists cost $500, and bridal inquiries are handled through a dedicated email address. Cancellations need 24 hours' notice by phone or email.
