The name comes from the ocean and from ki, the essential life force energy the founder, Dr. Jennifer S. Jackson, chose to build the practice around.

Dr. Jackson started the clinic in Rhode Island, her home state, after she graduated. The clinic describes itself as offering holistic health care and aesthetic treatments, combining traditional and modern medicine and using current technology and research. It says consultations are not rushed and that clients receive individual attention from both its medical and administrative teams.

Visits are by appointment, and no referral is needed. Appointments can be booked online after signing in or creating an account, where availability can be checked before registering, or by phone. Treatment plans are personalized to each patient's goals and may combine acupuncture with cupping, moxibustion, Reiki, massage and other services, with follow-up support after visits.

The clinic's signature offerings are its named skin and light programs. Ocean Inspired Skin pairs three microneedling or nanoneedling sessions with ten facial rejuvenation acupuncture treatments, held weekly. The Four Ocean Bundle is a four-week plan that moves from microneedling with Celluma light to facial acupuncture, nanoneedling and more light sessions. Ocean Wave Acne Goodbye is a four-week program of facial acupuncture, blue LED light, ear seeds and facial cupping for active breakouts, and the clinic notes that severe acne may need more visits than the package includes. The skin packages are not recommended for pregnant people or people undergoing chemotherapy or radiation.
