The school opened in 1976 as Milwaukie Beauty School and was later renamed Northwest College School of Beauty. It moved to Clackamas Town Center in June 2005, then opened campuses in Eugene, Hillsboro, Tualatin, Medford and Beaverton. In 2015 the Eugene campus moved to Springfield, roughly doubling its education space. The school now runs four campuses and says it has trained beauty professionals for more than 48 years. Its stated mission is to train a select group of health, wellness and beauty professionals.

About

Training is offered in Hair Design, Barbering, Esthetics, Advanced Aesthetics, Nail Technology, combination programs in hair and nails, hair and esthetics, or esthetics and nails, Teacher Training, and a short Eyelash Extension Certification. The Hair Design program covers styling, cutting and coloring over more than 1,000 hours. The Barbering program covers 946 hours of men's grooming. The Advanced Aesthetics program teaches the use of advanced aesthetics equipment. Students receive the Milady Standard curriculum, and instruction starts with theory before moving to techniques, safety, sanitation and business practices.

The school's salon services are open to the public and are performed by students under close guidance from licensed professionals. Requests should be made at least 24 hours ahead, and the school will contact you to confirm, since the requested time may not be open. Prices may be adjusted for hair length, thickness, extra chemicals or the complexity of the service. Medical aesthetics pricing depends on the consultation and treatment plan, and package pricing is discussed at consultation.

The school has recognized itself with several honors, which are its own claims: a 2014 national recognition from Modern Salon's Excellent in Education Program, a 2014 top honor for Community Involvement, and attention from national publications including Seventeen Magazine. It also says its Advanced Aesthetics program is the first and only nationally accredited program of its kind in Oregon.

Enrollment is open throughout the year. Prospective students meet an admissions representative, take a campus tour, and then enroll. Enrollment requires proof of high school completion or an equivalent such as a GED, a state-issued ID or proof of age, a Social Security card, and an alien registration card where applicable, along with an Enrollment Agreement and a registration fee. The school participates in federal aid programs, and students seeking aid complete the FAFSA. It does not admit Ability-to-Benefit students.

Students spend about half their time working with real clients in the student salon, and nail classes are taught in small groups under licensed instructors. The school describes its instructors as licensed and experienced, with one-on-one instruction.

According to the school, its campuses are clean and safe. The Beaverton location offers over 10,500 square feet devoted to instruction.
