Natural Do is a membership salon and retail store built around natural hair care. Founder and owner Valonne Smith runs the business, which the site describes as a multi-salon operation with locations in San Jose and Stockton. The San Jose salon held its grand opening on April 8, 2022. An earlier feature in Essence Magazine was marked with a celebration at the salon in November 2018.

The salon's vision is a place where curly-haired clients can accept and love their hair as it naturally grows. Its mission is to teach clients how to look after their hair so they get the results they want, and to help them find products and styling methods that fit their texture. Customer care is the top priority among its core values, alongside curls, community and career.

Every haircut begins with a consultation covering the result a client wants, upkeep, product suggestions and styling tips. Hair consultations are free: the stylist reviews a form, examines and washes the hair, and talks through hair type, styles and products. Natural hair is washed, conditioned and moisturized before styling. Clients should arrive with hair detangled and ready to wash, since the salon adds a fee if it has to take down or detangle hair first. Appointments take about 1.5 hours and can be booked online or by phone.

Members pay for a year at a time, billed monthly or yearly, and individual services can also be booked without a plan. The Curlfriend Membership costs $235 a month when paid by electronic funds transfer, or $240 a month on a recurring card. It covers two styling services each month and 15% off other services and certain retail products, but excludes Invisible Locs and Singles. The Naturally You Membership is $439 a month by electronic funds transfer or $459 by recurring card. It includes unlimited styles, unlimited deep conditioning, protein, healthy scalp and hot oil treatments, single process color, highlights and haircuts, along with three full-size products at sign-up. Both plans include consultations, complimentary beverages and snacks, and 15% off additional services and Natural Do products. Members are also offered early access to new products, swag and events.

Natural Do runs an apprentice training program that has been approved by the state's Division of Apprenticeship Standards and the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. Apprentices are paid while they study toward a license as a cosmetologist, barber or electrologist, working under a trainer at a Board-licensed establishment. To book, a credit card number is required. Cancellations made less than 24 hours ahead, and no-shows, are charged 50% of the a la carte fee.

Natural Do works from the belief that embracing natural hair texture and using natural, organic-based products supports healthy hair growth. Hairstyles in its gallery are all natural, without extensions.
