Moncure

Moncure is a bodywork, yoga and education business in West Seattle. Its massage therapy, doula care, childbirth classes and yoga all sit under one roof at the California Avenue location, and the business is owned by Elizabeth M. Chatel.

Massage is by appointment only, mostly on weekdays with some weekend availability. The menu covers Swedish, deep tissue, neuromuscular and structural integration work, along with craniosacral therapy, abdominal massage, intraoral treatment, medical massage, injury treatment, and pregnancy and perinatal massage for new and expecting mothers. Payment is due at the time of service and includes cash, check, credit, HSA and Personal Injury Plan payments. Insurance is not billed directly, but a receipt is provided for reimbursement claims. Medical records can be requested.

Doula care supports people through the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy and helps parents prepare for birth. Because birth doula availability is limited, the business asks that requests be made as early as possible. The childbirth education classes cover pregnancy, labor, newborn care and breastfeeding, and include Bringing Baby Home, a program based on John Gottman's research on the transition to parenthood.

The yoga classes are offered to adults and children. Adult sessions emphasize spinal support, mobility and balanced strength. Children's classes use age-appropriate movement and simple mindfulness practices. Clients are welcomed by appointment, and the business states that it does not discriminate based on age, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or citizenship.
