The business began in 2003 as Amanda's Spa and Beauty Services on Peace Road, founded by Amanda. In 2007 it moved to South 4th Street in DeKalb and became an Aveda Concept Spa. In July 2017 it relocated to Hillcrest Drive and was renamed Mira Salon and Spa.

Bookings can be made online or by calling (815) 748-5887, and guests may also drop in without an appointment. Hours run Monday through Wednesday from 9 AM to 8 PM, Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday from 9 AM to 2 PM; the salon stays shut on Thursdays and Sundays. Located at the fringe of a large shopping district, it provides ample private parking. The spa offers wheelchair access, and guests with special needs can use every spa and salon service offered.

Inside, the salon has six hair chairs, two handicap accessible shampoo bowls, two pedicure stations, a nail table and two multipurpose treatment rooms. Groups can book for any occasion. Consultations are available for hair products, color, haircuts, extensions, facials, eyelash services, wigs and weddings.

Hair extensions can be hand tied, tape-in, worn as toppers or as wigs. The salon's Facial Series is a set of five facials listed at $275.

Built on organic, cruelty-free hair and skincare products and ongoing team education, with the team averaging 50 hours of salon education a year, according to the salon.

The salon describes its setting as calm and tranquil.
