Messy's is a Shawnee salon built around plant-based hair color. The salon describes itself as Kansas City's 100% plant color salon and says its color products are plant-based and non-toxic. Color is mixed from custom botanical blends. The salon describes plant color as permanent but fading gradually over time, and says it takes two to three days to show its final result. Plant color blends with gray hair for a lighter result that resembles highlights rather than a solid color, and it can be used on chemically processed hair. It may leave a temporary green tint on white, light or bleached hair that fades as the color settles. A consultation is required before booking any plant color service, and the salon recommends a patch test on the inner arm beforehand. Afterward, clients should wait 48 to 72 hours before washing hair or using hair products. According to the salon, getting hair wet can affect the final result, and bleaching is not advised after plant color, especially after cool shades that contain indigo. Bracelets, anklets, necklaces, hand chains and rings are made in over 70 chain styles, custom-sized and welded, in sterling silver, gold-filled, rose gold and 14k gold. Chains are priced by the inch, from $4 to $25 or more per inch, and bookings require a $15 deposit. Appointments run on weekdays and Saturdays, with Saturdays reserved for permanent jewelry only. It suits ages 0 to 100, and clients under 18 need parental approval through a waiver. The jewelry can also be brought to off-site events such as birthdays, bridal showers, pop-ups, ladies' nights and book club meetups, and private gatherings with hostess benefits can be arranged, including at the salon. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 11 AM to 4:30 PM and Friday from 11 AM to 4 PM, with Saturday and Sunday closed.
