Kym Prager-Wilson founded Medusa Salon in 1998 and wanted the space to reflect her interest in music, art and fashion. The salon describes its story as one of creative inspiration from music and fashion, and that influence carries into the work and the feel of the room.

The salon is small, with limited seating, so stylists often work in close quarters. It is open from 11 am to 8 pm every day. Bookings are made through the salon's booking site, where each stylist's services can be viewed, and a credit card is required to book. Creative color services require a consultation first.

Listed prices are starting prices. The stylist sets the final price after a consultation, based on time, hair length, products used and hair condition, and it may rise if extra time or product is needed. Phone and email quotes are price ranges only. Color is sold separately from other services. Gratuities are not included and can be paid in cash or through Venmo.

Cancellations or reschedules need 24 hours notice, made through the booking link or by phone rather than email. Missed appointments, late cancellations, and arrivals more than 15 minutes late are charged 50% of the starting price of the booked services. Sales are final, and clients who are not satisfied may return within one week for a redo. Only one guest may accompany a client during service.
