The studio pairs its salon work with an academy, legally named MatNat Hair Studio Advanced Academy LLC, and the two share a focus on teaching as well as doing.

The salon works by appointment only and is open Monday through Friday from 9:15am to 5:15pm and Saturday from 7:00am to 12:00pm, closed Sundays. Each service is priced on its own, and clients choose every service they need when they book. Consultations last 20 minutes, cost $40, and are offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only, so it helps to call ahead. The consultation fee does not cover salon services. Some services, such as color correction, double process color, full balayage, virgin relaxers and texturizers, require a consultation or assessment first, and appointments outside regular hours may be possible by special request for an additional fee.

The academy's Extended Mentorship Program is an 8 to 10 week hands-on program for cosmetology students, recent graduates and emerging beauty professionals. It covers advanced short-hair cutting and pixie artistry, professional and leadership development, and healthy hair care with professional coloring. The MatNat Mentorship Scholarship Fund helps with program costs for applicants with financial need who show dedication, professionalism and commitment to the industry. The studio's services are built around precision cutting and healthy hair care, with consultations used to plan more involved color and relaxer work before booking. Teaching the next generation of beauty professionals is a central part of the business.
