Mallory on Hair

Mallory on Hair is the work of Mallory Vorhees, a holistic hairstylist at Gilded Fox Salon on Southeast Belmont Street in Portland. Perms are the center of the practice, alongside shaping wavy and curly hair and doing color work.

Partial perms are offered for very short hair or hair above the ear, applied to the top of the hair. Full perms are available for existing and new perm clients. Every full perm starts with prep: a Malibu vitamin C detox followed by a protein treatment, while partial perms above the ears don't need it. A consultation of about 30 minutes is required before booking any perm, and it can be held in person or virtually. Clients should plan on roughly six hours or more with the stylist in the week of the perm, covering detox, haircut and perm.

Bleached hair is generally not permed, since it may not take the wave well and could affect hair health. Perm waves begin to soften after four to six months but don't fully go away, and perms are typically recommended every six to twelve months.
