Magic Spell Studio is a garden salon in Alameda, run by Opal Baedeker, who owns the business and works as its stylist. Every appointment takes place outdoors in the garden, so clients are advised to dress for the weather, warmly in winter and lightly in summer.

Services fall into three groups: Haircut Magic, Organic Hair Color Magic and Magic Spell Tarot. Haircuts are shaped to each client's hair and are designed to change gracefully as the hair grows. Aura Hair Painting lightens hair and adds pastel, vivid or other creative color, while Dreamy Dimensional Hair Painting builds balayage, highlights and dimensional tones on blonde, red, brunette and copper hair. A Simple Single Process and Simple Root Touch Up are available for solid color, with gloss included in the single process.

Tarot readings can be booked virtually or in the garden. A birthday option pairs a Magic Spell haircut with a reading. The studio also sells spell dyed garments and visual art, and offers gift cards.

Booking is done online, with payment in full collected at booking. Clients may also pay by cash or Venmo after emailing the salon to book. Tipping is not accepted, as the listed price is the total. New clients are welcome, and anyone booking color for the first time or trying something new is asked to email ahead so the goals and appointment can be discussed. Clients running late are asked to email or text.

Haircuts are designed to evolve as they grow, and color and cuts are intuitively shaped and described as organic.
