MAC Hair Design is run by owner and hair colorist Monica Colburn, who works independently inside Cavalry Salon at 1645 Connecticut Ave NW, a short walk from the Dupont Circle Metro on the Red Line. The studio serves clients from across Northwest DC, including Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Logan Circle, Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, Shaw and the U Street Corridor. It is open Wednesday to Friday from noon to 7 PM and Saturday from 11 AM to 5 PM, and is closed Monday, Tuesday and Sunday. Appointments are booked through the studio's online booking platform. Color is the core of the menu. Services range from a single-process retouch and gloss to foil highlights, partial and full babylights, face-framing highlights and balayage or lived-in color. Redken color, lightener and gloss are used throughout, and several color services include a complimentary bonding treatment in the gloss or lightener. A consultation is required for new clients, for extension questions and for major color changes, and it is applied toward the service if a color appointment is booked the same day. Creative, fashion and fantasy color also begins with a new client consultation, because pricing depends on the number of colors or whether color removal is needed. Cutting and styling range from a basic dry trim to a full wash, round-brush blowout and hot-tools finish, with an option for a flat iron, waves or curl finish on a blowout. Special occasion updos and on-site styling for events are available by consultation. The studio also offers a chemical-free silk press for textured hair, keratin smoothing and keratin express treatments, and Olaplex or K18 bonding as add-ons. Hair extensions are handled too, including tinsel and sparkle extensions, tape-in maintenance and removal, and professional coloring for tape-ins, bundles and human-hair wigs. Loc care is a separate focus. Loc retwists are offered by consultation, which can be done in person or virtually, and pricing depends on loc length and thickness. Stylists work with palm rolling, interlocking, sisterlocks and traditional palm-rolled locs.
