The salon first opened in September 2004 in Irvine, California, under the name metro FOR MEN. It moved to Lake Forest in 2018 and took its current name. It is independently owned and operated, described as a women-owned small business, and was founded by Krista Martin.

It is a male-only space with a country club feel, and clients have access to a private locker room with freshly laundered smocks.

Services are performed in large club chairs. Shaves start with steaming hot towels and hot lather, and nail services use hot towels to soften cuticles. Stylists tailor each haircut to the client's hair type, texture and head shape, and an average haircut takes about 30 to 45 minutes. A consultation is needed for exact pricing on specific hair types, lengths and densities, and consultations with the owner carry an extra $40 fee. Prices may change without notice.

Appointments can be booked by phone, email, the online reservation system or the scheduling app. Clients are asked to arrive at least 5 minutes early, and a credit card is needed to hold every appointment. Cancellations within 24 hours are charged 50 percent of the service price, cancellations within 12 hours are charged in full, and no-shows are charged the full scheduled price. The salon accepts major credit cards, Venmo and Zelle. Clients can text the booking number to ask about services that are not on the menu.

According to the salon, it calls itself the premier men's hair salon in Lake Forest and Orange County, and it says it was named Best Men's Haircut in Orange County by OC Weekly. It also says it was listed as a Top 200 Salon in America by Salon Today for ten years in a row, and that it received awards between 2008 and 2017. These are the salon's own claims.
