M.C. Beauty Salon & Spa occupies part of the historic Fargo Hotel building in downtown Sycamore, where some of the original floors and doors are still in place. It is open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 9pm. Reception hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 5pm and Tuesday from 9am to 12pm.

The salon describes itself as a place for everyone, for all walks of life. Its stated aim is to help each client look and feel their best, and its care reaches past hair and skin: the team may talk, listen, or leave a client in quiet, as the client prefers. Silent appointments are offered, and clients can ask for one when they are greeted.

Hair services cover haircuts, express cuts and kids cuts, plus single, partial and full dimensional color, blonding, lived-in color, vivids, creative color and color corrections. Extensions are offered as K-Tip fusion or bonding. Head spa and keratin smoothing treatments are also available, though a head spa visit does not include a blowout, which must be booked separately. Davines is the main hair care line, used in services and sold for home use. Services involving lightener and foils must be booked as partial or full dimensional, and a complimentary consultation is recommended before creative color, platinum, color correction or other major changes.

The spa side offers facials including the Wellness Signature, The Custom and Express options, plus Express, Beginner and Advanced peel facials. Brow laminations, brow tints, lash lifts, lash tints, waxing and facial and body treatments round out the menu. Green Envee, Bushbalm and Brow Code are used in spa services and are also available for at-home maintenance.

Memberships are bought by calling the salon and can be cancelled by phone or through the online booking account. Blowout Membership Silver is $63 a month and includes two complimentary hair treatments valued at $70, 10% off blowouts and 10% off retail products. Blowout Membership Gold is $119 a month and includes four complimentary hair treatments valued at $140, 15% off blowouts and 10% off retail products. Changes to appointments need 48 hours notice. Later changes carry a fee of 50% of the cancelled services to book a future visit, and a no-show carries a fee of 100%. Repeated cancellations or no-shows require a card on file for missed services. Clients can report an issue with a service within 7 days of leaving, and the salon will work to correct it. Refunds are not given for services.

Hairstylist positions are offered on a commission basis. An associate program gives new or growing stylists hands-on experience, advanced education and mentorship before they move into full-time roles, and an unpaid internship is available to cosmetology students completing required hours. Megan Morgan, CEO, also owns the salon's sister location, The Studio, in Sycamore.
