About

Luna Electrolysis was founded in Downtown Oak Park by electrologists Stephanie Carey and Sabrina Flores. The business says electrolysis is the only FDA-approved form of permanent hair removal and that it has performed thousands of treatments. It states the method works on all skin tones, hair textures and hair colors, and it has served clients with PCOS or PMOS, a range of skin tones and ethnicities, and transgender clients. The studio describes its equipment as state-of-the-art and its setting as clean and professional.

Visits are by appointment only, booked through the online self-booking system. Every new client begins with a required consultation that includes a 15-minute treatment session, and clients are asked to let hair grow two to four days untouched first; those who arrive without that growth forfeit the included session. Sessions are priced by length, from 5 minutes up to 2 hours or more, and a full facial clearing can take between 1 and 30 hours depending on hair density. A 50% deposit is required for sessions over two hours, treatment is capped at five hours per day, and payment is due at the time of service.

Most clients on the recommended plan take 12 to 24 months, and certain medications and hormones may extend that timeline. Clients are asked to wait at least two weeks after injectables and one week after microneedling before electrolysis, to schedule light chemical peels five to seven days apart from sessions, and to avoid makeup for 24 hours afterward. Cancellations or reschedules made within 24 hours for appointments of an hour or less, or within 48 hours for longer ones, are charged half the service price, and late arrivals pay the full price even when there is not enough time left to perform the service.

Luna is not a medical office and does not accept insurance or join insurance networks, and it cannot submit pre-authorization forms on a client's behalf. Clients can request itemized receipts with CPT code 17380, where one insurance unit equals 30 minutes, to submit to their insurer for possible reimbursement; the receipts are emailed monthly. For surgical preparation, the team offers electrolysis before vaginoplasty and recommends allowing 24 months for full clearance, and it offers electrolysis after facial feminization surgery timed around the surgeon's advice. Pre-surgery photos of the treatment area can be emailed in advance. Clients may bring their own over-the-counter 5% lidocaine cream or arrange prescription numbing through a licensed physician.

Each client starts with a required consultation and a 15-minute treatment session, then moves through a plan shaped by hair density and the size of the area.

A clean, professional space with state-of-the-art equipment; the waiting area is small and shared, so clients may bring one guest.
