Luma Dermatology

Luma Dermatology is a physician-owned practice in Clearwater with no private equity investors. It brings together general (medical) dermatology, pediatric dermatology, cosmetic dermatology and esthetician services. The practice says its team are Clearwater natives who care about the community, and it describes its staff as highly trained and aims to provide the highest standard of care.

Medical visits include a full-body skin check for skin cancer surveillance and a focused spot check for a new area of concern. Physicians evaluate and treat conditions such as vitiligo, psoriasis, allergic contact dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, eczema, hair loss and warts, and remove skin cancers, cysts and lipomas through cutaneous surgery. Treatment plans may include topical creams, oral medications, light or laser therapy or skin surgery, and diagnosis may involve visual inspection or a skin biopsy. Pediatric dermatology covers birthmarks, rashes, acne, hives, molluscum and psoriasis in children. Physicians also perform ear piercing and re-piercing for patients of all ages, starting at $100 and taking about 15 minutes.

Cosmetic services include neuromodulators, dermal fillers, chemical peels, laser therapy and radiofrequency skin tightening. A cosmetic consultation assesses skin type, texture, tone and areas of concern and results in a recommended plan. The consultation carries a $150 deposit, and if a treatment is booked within 30 days, $100 of that deposit goes toward it. Same-day treatment after a consultation is not guaranteed. Microneedling uses an FDA-cleared device and begins with a consultation with a medical provider and an esthetician; it is priced at $300 per session, with 4-session packages spaced 4 weeks apart. Cosmetic dermatology is elective and is not billed to health insurance.

The esthetician menu includes four 60-minute facials at $175 each: the Signature Luma Facial, the Hydrating Bliss Facial, the Clarifying Detox Facial for acne-prone skin, and the Age-Defying Renewal Facial aimed at signs of aging. A $250 back facial is also offered. Facials use SkinMedica products, which the practice describes as premium and scientifically based. Shorter add-ons include dermaplaning, high frequency, cosmetic extractions, eye treatment, neck and decollete treatment, and hand and arm massage. High frequency cannot be done in the same session as a chemical peel add-on. A facial booking requires a $75 deposit that is applied to the cost, and a $25 facial consultation fee is credited if the facial is booked within 30 days.

Cosmetic services are generally for clients 18 and older. Facial guests under 18 need a parent or legal guardian present or written consent, and a signed consent form is required for the first visit. Clients are asked to arrive 15 minutes early, and late arrivals are charged the full cost of the originally scheduled appointment. Cancellations and rescheduling need 48 hours notice, and deposits are forfeited for shorter notice; each deposit can be transferred once. Medical visits need 24 hours notice for changes, and arriving 15 minutes or more late counts as a no-show. Payment is accepted by cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, and a valid credit card is required at booking. The practice accepts many insurance plans but cannot guarantee in-network status for every plan, and some plans require referral authorization before scheduling. Hours are Monday through Thursday 8:30am to 4:30pm and Friday 8:30am to 12:00pm, closed weekends.
