LocsByJoy is a one-person studio on South Blvd in Charlotte. Joy is the owner and works the chair herself, with a focus on healthy locs and styles across the menu. Services are grouped into two-strand styles, bobs and buns, curls, mohawks, pipe cleaners, ponytails, retwists, starter locs, color, add-ons, and a one-on-one lesson.

New clients book the New Client Bundle for their first visit. It combines a consultation, a scalp tonic treatment, a detox, a cleansing shampoo and a style, and a $45 deposit is required. New clients should text or call first to confirm whether new clients are being accepted. Starter locs require a free consultation before booking, and a $50 non-refundable deposit is paid after consultation if the client goes ahead.

For clients who would rather not travel, Joy offers in-home appointments between 10 AM and 4 PM at the client's location, with the total paid at booking. LessonOnLocs is a one-on-one, all-day session at the salon, lasting about eight hours, that covers loc care, shampooing, palm roll retwisting and styling.

Color is not provided by the salon. Clients choose their own color, and the salon recommends Adore brand hair color in 3/4 bottles, with a color sample viewed before the service. Hours are Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM, Wednesday 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Friday 9 AM to 7:30 PM, and Saturday 11 AM to 3:30 PM; the studio is closed Sunday and Monday. Curlz must be booked by 4:30 PM because of dryer time, and color by 5 PM. Cancellations need 24 hours' notice, and a no-call, no-show is charged 30% of the service price. Clients have a 15-minute grace period, and a $25 late fee applies after 20 minutes.

Joy focuses on healthy locs and styles and aims for clients to leave feeling and looking good.
