Every appointment is planned as a custom session shaped around the client's own idea of beauty, whether that means a color change, a new cut, a set of extensions or a look for an event. New clients are asked to complete the virtual consultation form before booking. Services are charged by the hour, with any time beyond 30 minutes billed as a full hour, and pricing is based on time and service rather than gender. Exact quotes are not always available in advance for most appointments.
Walk-ins are accepted, though booking ahead is recommended. Clients can request a quiet appointment with no conversation during their service, and the front desk lets the artist know when one is booked. Young children may not come along to appointments, and services are not performed on anyone under 16 or anyone who needs adult supervision during a service. Street parking is metered, so clients are advised to allow about 10 minutes to find a spot. The main entrance is on Lake Avenue above Electric Tattoo, and a back entrance on Cookman Avenue is reached through the courtyard.
Bridal work includes hair and makeup, a complimentary bridal beauty coordinator and a complimentary consultation. A bridal trial lets couples test favorite styles and photograph the wedding-day look. Bridal and event artists are available seven days a week for weddings, events and photoshoots, in the salon or on location, including destination weddings, if requested in advance. The salon has a bridal area for wedding-day prep photos, and photographers may be invited. Bridal clients are asked to book well ahead and send inquiries through the inquiry form or by email at weddings@lockandshade.com.
Booking policies: a credit card on file is required for any service. Cancellations and service changes need at least 48 hours notice. Cancellations inside 48 hours are charged 50% of the service and no-shows are charged 100%. Some bookings require a non-refundable deposit, which can be transferred with more than 48 hours notice. Clients who arrive more than fifteen minutes late may have services shortened or changed at the artist's discretion. A one-week grace period after the first appointment allows adjustments or corrections at no cost, though further work may carry an extra charge at management's discretion.
Each visit is a custom session built around what the client wants to look like, with the artist planning the service to suit that goal.
