The salon says its aim is to help clients embrace their own look while supporting each stage of growing natural locs, with a focus on confidence and healthy hair.

Every new client begins with a paid 30-minute in-person consultation that includes sample locs, and this applies to people who already wear locs and are transferring from another stylist. Installation is booked afterward with a deposit, and it is not done on the same day as the consultation. Establishment takes one to three days depending on density, length and the loctician's pace. Locs typically take six months to a year or more to fully settle, and Sisterlocks includes a follow-up retie within four weeks of establishment, with retightenings usually four to six weeks apart.

Clients do not need to cut their hair before establishment. They may color before or after, though color touch-ups are held off until the locs have settled, since coloring too early can cause slippage. Combing out loc ends is not offered, as the salon considers it outside the Sisterlocks standard of practice. Loc extensions are not offered, and transfer clients who have extensions are not accepted.

Sisterlocks is installed by a certified Sisterlocks loctician, and each service is paired with a consultation so the method fits the client's hair.
