Liyah's Hair Studio operates from Suite 207 inside the My Salon Suite building on West Esplanade Avenue in Metairie. Owner stylist Aaliyah Howard opened the studio in 2019, after training at Aveda Institute New Orleans and gaining experience working in other salons. The menu is broad. Chemical services include relaxers and relaxer retouches for grown-out virgin roots, and color services range from single color and color retouches to highlights, cap highlights, lowlights, toner, double process work and corrective color for results from earlier coloring. Extensions include clip-in installs and micro link installs, and styles cover wash and go, sleek ponytails, box braids and miracle knots. Natural and relaxed hair have their own sections with silk presses, wash and sets and two strand twists, and there is a separate kids' menu for ages 12 and under. The natural hair smoothing system is one of the more distinctive offerings. It is a heat-activated treatment that is not a relaxer, uses amino acids and conditioning agents, and is temporary, lasting about 8 to 12 weeks. It is intended for very curly hair that needs moisture and conditioning, and the salon says it makes detangling and styling easier with less frizz. Curly cuts are offered when a client wears their hair curly all the time; the stylist prefers to cut hair that is blown out or straightened. Booking requires a $25 deposit sent through Square or Zelle within 12 hours of appointment acceptance. The deposit is applied to the final payment, is non-refundable, and can be moved once to another appointment. Clients are asked to reschedule or cancel at least one day ahead, and arriving 15 minutes late adds $15 to the service. The studio is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm, Friday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, and is closed Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday. Clients who need a time not listed, or a time after 4 pm, can contact the studio in advance. Major credit cards, cash and Zelle are accepted, with a 4% service fee on credit card payments. Gift cards are sold, and product refunds are limited to damaged or incorrect items; in-store exchanges are allowed within three business days with the receipt, provided the product is intact with its safety seal unbroken.
