Little Locks has served San Diego since 2002 and runs three locations: La Jolla, Solana Beach and Bonita. Each salon is set up for children, with the aim of keeping kids comfortable through play, with games, kid-size styling chairs, toys and kid-friendly hair products.
A visit is by appointment only. Stylists work with children across a wide age range, from first haircuts through teen cuts, and the menu includes boys, girls and adult cuts so a family can often book everyone in one trip. Sibling bookings are scheduled back-to-back, and each child receives a treat.
The salon's birthday offerings are one of its main draws. Options include a solo experience for the birthday girl, a two-child experience, and a consultation for groups of three to six kids. Themed styles are available in Royal Princess, KPOP and Mermaid looks, and party experiences include hairstyles, face gems, birthday makeup, painted nails and a goody bag.
Next to the salon is a toy boutique selling creative and educational toys, with complimentary gift wrapping on toy purchases. The salon describes its pricing as affordable and its toy selection as the best around; these are its own claims.
Sessions are built around making children feel at ease, using games, child-sized equipment and kid-friendly products.
