Lara Slater Salons began in Tucson, Arizona, as a by-appointment salon called You Look Gorgeous salon by Lara, and grew through referrals. In summer 2015 the business moved to Scottsdale and took the Lara Slater Salons name as a single-person salon.

Curly hair is the core of the salon. Services use the Deva Curl method and Deva Curl products. A women's curly cut is done on dry hair, curl by curl, and takes about 90 minutes. The Deva-Curl cut, also starting at $125 and taking about 90 minutes, is done on dry hair in natural curls and includes a Deva no-poo, one conditioner, a final set and education on getting the most from curls. Established clients can book a dry curly cut only for $80; hair must arrive dry, down and curly, and hair with heavy tangles or hair that isn't dry and down may be moved to a full-price curly cut and style if time allows.

Color services include all-over single process color from $120, partial and full foil from $155 and $185, foil with a base color, and balayage from $250. Additional colors in foil services are $15 each, and longer, thicker or virgin hair may need extra color batches at $10 each in full foil. Color correction is priced after a consultation in which the client describes their current hair and goals. Men's cuts, kids' cuts and women's traditional wet cuts are also on the menu, with blow-dry and heat styling available as add-ons.

Halo-Couture extensions come with a free color match and consultation. They are 100% remy human hair that can be styled with the client's own hair, come in 23 match colors in layered or single-length styles, and range from 12 to 24 inches. They attach without clips or glue. The salon says they last three to four times longer than one application of attached extensions.

New clients text the salon at 480-469-4241 for a text consultation before their first appointment. Current clients, meaning anyone who has visited within the last two years, can book online or by text. Texts are answered within 24 to 48 hours, Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Calls and emails are not recommended for booking.

Curly hair is central to the work, using the Deva Curl method and products across cuts, styling and treatments.
