About

L.A. Tan opened in the early 1990s with four locations. Since 2001, Nick Patel has been both the owner and the chief executive of the chain. According to the business, it is the fastest-growing tanning salon chain in the Midwest.

Salons are networked, so a client with an account can tan at any L.A. Tan location nationwide. Membership is handled through Sun Club, which offers unlimited plans with automatic payment, discounts on products and upgrades, and a rewards program for product purchases. Payment plans are also available through Cherry, a buy now, pay later provider; the business states that Cherry offers 0% APR options subject to eligibility and interest-bearing plans with APRs as low as 5.99%, with no hard credit checks and no hidden fees.

Sun tanning sessions take place on several levels of beds, including KBL and Ergoline hybrid and stand-up units. Spray tanning happens in a booth. The business says its spray solution is paraben free, gluten free and non-comedogenic, and that its Mystic Tan Unity booth, which uses MagneTan spray technology, takes under two minutes.

Spray tan clients are asked to shower, exfoliate and shave four to six hours beforehand, and to skip lotions, oils, makeup, deodorant and perfume. They should wait at least eight hours before showering or exercising and four hours before swimming. The tan generally lasts seven to nine days, depending on skin type, moisturizing habits and how dark the tan is.

Cryotherapy comes in two forms: localized sessions of 12 to 18 minutes on specific body areas, and whole body sessions of 3 to 5 minutes. Whole body clients keep their undergarments on, avoid lotion or moisturizer for an hour before, and leave metal such as body piercings off. Children under 18 need parental consent and a parent present. Infrared sauna sessions start at 130 degrees Fahrenheit, can be adjusted by the client, and should not run longer than 50 minutes in a row. Tanning eyewear must be FDA certified and block at least 99% of UVA and 99.9% of UVB; the salon offers temporary and multi-use goggles.

The business says its skin care professionals are highly trained and certified and offer a full consultation with customized packages. Complexion treatments are all-over body skin care sessions of about two minutes, offered as Lift or Hydrate. The site recommends three sessions a week for best results. Advanced red light therapy is described as a non-invasive treatment using low-level red and near-infrared light.

Combines sun and sunless tanning with skin care and wellness services, with consultations the business describes as tailored to each client.
