Owner Lena had long thought about opening a salon and founded L.RAE when a space became available. The salon is kept small, with four chairs, so each visit feels intimate, calm and relaxed, and every client receives personal attention.

Services are grouped into Haircuts, Color and Dimension, Styling and Finishing, and Treatments and Smoothing. Each visit starts with a conversation about the look the client wants, covering routine, lifestyle, face shape, hair density and texture. Color is placed by hand, section by section, cuts are finished dry, and the team explains how the color and cut will grow out and suggests an upkeep timeline.

The salon describes its products as top-of-the-line and its service as luxury, and it uses Davines treatments. Gift cards are available.

Bookings are made through Phorest, and a credit card is required to secure all appointments. Cancellations or reschedules need at least 24 hours' notice, and changes inside that window are charged 50% of the scheduled service total. A no-call, no-show is charged 75%. Children are welcome only with a scheduled service, and guests who are not being serviced are asked not to come along. Street parking is available on State and Monroe Streets and is paid through the Passport Parking app, and the Front and Jackson garage is two blocks south.

Healthy, beautiful hair comes first, and grow-out is considered from the start of every color and cut plan.

The interior is modern with a mid-century feel, lit by daylight, and finished in olive tones and saddle-brown leather, with carefully selected decorative details.
