The salons say healthy hair comes first, and that recommendations are shaped by what each client's hair needs. Both are certified Green Circle Salons. Hair, foil, color and packaging from appointments are recovered rather than sent to landfill, and there is a $5 Environmental Stewardship Fee per visit. The artists say they keep up with ongoing education so their techniques stay current. The salon lists Best of Boston 2024 and Boston Common Best of 2025 among its awards, according to the salon.

Booking is online and open at all hours. Phone contact is by text only at each listed number, and there is no front desk or receptionist. A credit card is needed on file to confirm an appointment. Bigger changes, color correction, first-time extensions, blonding and bridal work may begin with a consultation, and blonding, color correction, extensions and bridal work may also require a deposit toward the total. Lightening is priced by the time the hair needs, with toners included, and LAMS says every session is quoted before it starts. LAMS does not accept gratuity. Cancellations or changes need at least 48 hours' notice, and cancellations inside that window may be charged the full reserved service. Arriving more than 15 minutes late may shorten or reschedule the service. Adjustment requests must be made within 7 days of the visit. Children are welcome for their own appointments, but only guests receiving a service may come along.

Love and Mercy Salon is open Sunday 10am to 6pm, Monday 9am to 7pm, Tuesday through Friday 9am to 8pm, and Saturday 9am to 5pm. LAMS Boston is closed Sunday and Monday, and is open Tuesday through Friday 8:30am to 8pm and Saturday 7:30am to 5pm. LAMS also has a studio that independent salon educators can rent to host their own classes.

Healthy hair is the first priority, and recommendations are based on what each client's hair needs.
