New locs are created from the client's own hair, with wool optionally added for colour. Hair should be at least a little finger's length before creating begins, and clients are asked not to cut or heat-style it beforehand. Creating takes roughly three to five days depending on hair texture and density. Before any decision, prospective clients send a clear video of their hair over WhatsApp, and the cost is confirmed at consultation because it depends on the labour involved.

Maintenance and re-locking are offered for all loc sizes, and clients typically re-lock four times a year, one for each season. Locs are not re-locked more than four times a year. Support is available online and face to face, covering both starting and maintaining locs as well as ongoing online teaching.

Online one-to-one classes are for people who already have established locs and want to re-lock them themselves. Each session lasts about two hours. Classes are not offered to anyone starting new locs. Enquiries are handled through WhatsApp and the business says it aims to reply within 72 hours. KnottedLocs does not attach locs.

KnottedLocs re-locks small and medium locs by knotting rather than interlocking, working with hands and no tools, without a fixed grid line, band or braiding. Oil is applied from day one and continues for the life of the locs, with the stated aim of maximum fullness, good hydration and hygiene with minimal fuss.
