The land was part of a plantation in the 1600s through the 1800s, and one of its golf courses follows the original plantation layout.

The Kingsmill Spa is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Spa treatments can be booked by people who are not staying at the resort, and treatments include access to the indoor and outdoor pools and the Sports Club locker room, which has a wet area, dry sauna, steam room and hot tub. Massages can be booked individually or as a couple, and the spa also arranges weddings and events, including bridal party treatments and group spa days.

Massage is the largest part of the menu, from a 30-minute express session to 90-minute relaxing Swedish and therapeutic deep tissue sessions, plus a prenatal massage and a reflexology massage. Facials range from a 50-minute classic renewing treatment to a 75-minute deluxe facial that includes a back facial, and HydraFacials are offered in 30-, 60- and 75-minute versions. Body treatments include a detoxifying body treatment and an herbal cellulite treatment, along with stretch therapy, where guests are asked to wear athleisure.

Cancellations or changes need at least 24 hours' notice. A cancellation inside 24 hours is charged 50% of the appointment, and a no-call or no-show is charged in full. Spa prices are subject to change, and the resort is cashless, so charges go to a credit card, a room charge or a member account.

The resort says roughly 40% of its acreage is dedicated to environmental initiatives, including water conservation, an integrated pest management program that limits fertilizer and pesticide use, and resort-wide recycling.
