Cuts are shaped around each client's curl, and each Kindred Curl Cut is tailored to the individual. New clients start with the Kindred Curl Success Experience, which begins with a full consultation and a dry custom cut that usually takes about an hour and a half to two hours. The visit continues with a hands-on styling lesson, instruction on applying products, and product and upkeep recommendations. New clients leave with a take-home curly hair booklet, and first appointments include membership in a private Facebook community for clients. Clients who are scissor shy or growing their hair out can book a no-cut lesson instead.

Color is done with single process, demi permanent formulas, which the salon says are better suited to curls. Options include root touch ups for grey coverage or shifts in tone, a shine treatment that leaves natural color unchanged, and a curl boost color service with a customized root formula and an Olaplex Bond Builder treatment.

Restorative options range from protein and hydrating treatments to a moisture detox, a K18 and Olaplex bond infusion and an Innersense scalp detox. Clients are asked to arrive with hair fully dry, washed and styled with their products within a day of the appointment, and to stop using products with silicones, butters, oils, petroleum or lanolin two weeks before a first visit. Children are welcome with an appointment.

The salon leans toward organic and clean products and frames its work around the health of the hair, scalp, mind and body, with cuts tailored to each person and hands-on teaching of curl care.
