The space is set up with children in mind. There are children's car chairs, movies and toys, and the waiting area has coloring materials, toys, train tables, complimentary coffee, tea and water, free Wi-Fi, and a power station for phones and devices. After each haircut, children receive lollipops, animal crackers and a treasure surprise. Families may bring a favorite comfort item or snack.

Stylists focus on children's hair and work gently with nervous or wiggly children. The salon states that its stylists are experts in cutting children's hair. Guests can share photos or describe styles they like or dislike, and the stylist will suggest a cut. Parents can note special needs or accommodations in the booking notes or message the salon on Facebook or email ksmidlo@kidtopiasalon.com. Quieter weekday mornings before 2 pm are suggested for sensory-sensitive children, and families whose child has had a difficult haircut or needs a calmer setting can email to plan a visit.

Hours are Tuesday to Friday 9:30 am to 6 pm and Saturday 9 am to 3:30 pm, with the salon closed Sunday and Monday. Online booking requires a credit card on file. Walk-ins are accepted during open hours up to 30 minutes before closing, with a cutoff of 5:30 pm Tuesday to Friday and 3 pm Saturday that may move during busy times. To request a specific stylist as a walk-in, arrive by 5 pm Tuesday to Friday or 2:30 pm Saturday. Appointments take priority over walk-ins, and walk-in waits can run about 20 to 30 minutes, longer during evenings, Saturdays, holidays, back-to-school and picture day. Guests should arrive 1 to 2 minutes before their appointment. A guest running late should call, and any late arrival is seen as a walk-in. An appointment with no contact is marked a no-show 8 minutes after its start time, and a $20 fee is charged to the card used to book.

Birthday celebrations run 90 minutes and can be built around one of six themes: Epic Slime, Walk the Plank, Let Your Diva Out, Fairytale Princess, Superhero, or Day at the Spa. Every booking covers a themed activity, up to two services for each child, a hostess who runs the party, favors, a group photo, and a certificate plus a gift for the birthday child. Guests are offered juice boxes or water, and paper goods and invitations are provided. Booking requires a deposit of $75 for business hours Tuesday through Saturday, or $150 for Sundays, Mondays, or times outside business hours. Deposits cannot be refunded, but a party can be moved to another open date and time. An 18 percent gratuity is added, and guests may bring outside food. Optional extras include more time, more guests, additional services, crafts, goody bags, balloons, and a princess or superhero visit, which must be requested two weeks in advance. eGift cards come in $30, $35, $150, and $175 amounts, or in any custom amount.

The salon aims for each child to leave with a good haircut and a pleasant experience, and for the whole family to enjoy the visit.
