The salon opened in 2012 and is named after James Tormey Macken, the grandfather of owner Shauna Richmond. It sits at 194 Hagman Road in Winthrop Center, beside Cafe Delite, and free street parking is available around the building.

Every stylist at the salon works independently, setting their own schedule, pricing and product lines. Visits are by appointment only. Clients book through a stylist's own online booking link or by contacting that stylist directly. Anyone unsure which stylist to see can phone the salon or use its contact form for help choosing or getting connected.

The salon focuses on making clients feel comfortable and having a good experience from the moment they arrive. The stylists specialize in custom color, including lived-in looks, balayage and smoothing treatments, and work with blondes, brunettes, coppers and other shades. Beyond color, the menu covers cuts, conditioning treatments, blowouts, wedding and special event styling, and a short list of brow, lip and tanning services. Hair care products across a range of brands and hair types are also sold on site.
