Joyfully Curly

Joyfully Curly is a boutique studio run by its owner, Joy, who cuts curly and wavy hair. Clients are seen one at a time, so each appointment is Joy's alone rather than shared with other stylists.

A visit to a first-time client starts with a dry consultation, where Joy looks at hair density, scalp health and porosity before any cutting begins. The cut itself is done on completely dry hair, curl by curl, and the appointment includes curl mapping, a dry sculpt, a cleanse, a set and coaching on how to care for and style the curls at home.

The studio uses only water-soluble products on curls and waves, avoiding sulfates, heavy silicones, parabens, and heavy oils and butters. Its primary line is CurlyWorld. New clients are asked to cleanse with baking soda and to stop using heavy oil and shea products, then use water-soluble products for two to three weeks before a first cut.

Clients who have been with the studio for more than a year and book at least two services a year can book as Established Clients at a lower rate. Coloring is available for returning clients on request, clients may sit under a hood dryer during their appointment, and a cash discount is offered on services. Payment is accepted by Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Venmo and Zelle.

Curl cutting is done dry, with water-soluble products and a consultation that looks at the hair before any cut, followed by coaching so clients can keep their curls healthy between visits.
