Jolieden's Beauty Bar was founded in 2018 by Diessou Kante. Her interest in the work began with her mother's job in a beauty salon, where she saw clients leave appointments feeling more confident. The salon describes itself as offering clients more than a simple makeover.
The braid menu includes knotless braids in several sizes, Fulani braids, French curl braids and Bohemian knotless braids, also called Bora Bora. Knotless braids are sized by row count: small traditional at 14 rows (7 per side), extra small at 16 rows (8 per side), medium at 6 rows, large at 5 rows and jumbo at 3 rows. Large knotless braids and small French curl braids (free-parts) are listed at $1,000, and large knotless braids can be finished with straight, wavy or flexi-rod curly ends. Bora Bora braids are knotless braids with loose bulk hair for a flowing look, listed at $1,000, and use three bundles of curly hair plus an $85 salon fee. Gypsy styles use two bundles plus a $50 fee. The salon says Bora Bora has been a top favorite for years. French curl styles are done by select stylists, and the salon does not supply that hair; clients buy it in advance, and the salon suggests two packs totaling sixteen small bundles, with 18-inch hair recommended for the most refined finish on Bohemian and French curl styles.
Sew-ins, twists and cornrows round out the menu. Hybrid Sew In is offered only in micro size for $350, uses a blend of synthetic and human hair, and can be worn in a ponytail but not a bun. Fulani Sew-In is also offered. Kinky twists use full human hair, with a recommended quantity of five packs; micro and extra small kinky twists are available only at 9 AM. Traditional Senegalese twists are offered, and Freestyle Fulani Twist is a $1,000 stitch add-on that pairs stitched cornrows in front with Senegalese twists in back, with straight, wavy or flexi-rod curly ends. Small freestyle cornrows are also on the menu. Standard synthetic braiding hair is included with most braiding services. A wash and blow-dry is $30 as an add-on, requested before the appointment, and uses professional shampoo and conditioner, or clients may bring their own products.
The salon is open every day from 9am to 7:30pm. Appointments are booked only through its website, with real-time availability, and booking at least 14 days ahead is recommended. A card is required to secure the booking but is not charged online, and all services are cash-only. Appointment time starts when the client enters the salon, and hair sectioning and preparation can take 1 to 1.5 hours within that time. Hair must arrive cleansed, fully dry, detangled and free of product, glue, gels and heavy buildup, or a wash and blow-dry is needed at extra cost. Most styles require at least 3 inches of hair. Arrivals more than 30 minutes late are cancelled automatically, and one courtesy reschedule may be given for illness or verified travel disruption. A second cancellation within 24 hours carries a 50% charge, and a third brings a full charge and booking restriction. Clients who are unsure whether a style suits their hair can email clientcare@joliedensbeautybar.com before booking. Concerns must be reported within 24 hours of the appointment, and refunds are not issued once the client has left. In rare cases of dissatisfaction, the salon may offer to remove the style at no charge.
The salon does not offer tucking, braiding over locs or crochet, locs services, or braids for severe alopecia. It does not style children under 10 and does not provide textured hair such as bohemian curls, kinky hair or crochet hair. Human hair is used only as loose curls in Boho Knotless, Gypsy and Bora Bora styles. Clients who are tender-headed should say so before service begins, and those with known allergies or sensitivities should notify the salon in advance. Clients may bring pre-washed or hypoallergenic braiding hair, but the salon is not responsible for reactions to hair the client supplies. The salon notes that Bohemian and French curl styles can loosen, shed or tangle more easily, and that Bora Bora braids are high maintenance, since the bulk hair can tangle and pool or salt water can change its texture. For swimming, it recommends braiding Bora Bora styles into two large braids. The salon may decline service to anyone.
The salon's philosophy centers on intentional care, thoughtful technique and hospitality, with the aim of offering a safe space for creative expression and a sense of community.
The salon describes its space as comfortable, safe and curated.
