JHobby began in 2017 as a one-person makeup operation in the Royal Oak area of metro Detroit. It has since grown into a team of artists and coordinators, and the business focuses only on bridal work. It does not take non-bridal party bookings because demand for bridal appointments is high.

Bridal packages are all-inclusive and cover hair, makeup, draping and travel. Because each package is built around the bride, pricing follows a custom quote, which is requested through the bridal request form on the site.

Brides can book an in-person trial at the studio on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Each trial pairs the bride with a dedicated artist who styles hair and makeup to suit the outfit she plans to wear. For on-location service, a traveling team brings all equipment and supplies. This option requires the bride plus two more people, or at least four people getting party makeup. A travel fee applies, and metro Detroit locations are generally about the same fee. The fee covers scheduling, the studio appointment time that is lost during travel, mileage, and liability for driving to clients.
