Shelby started cutting hair at Salon Skanda in Atlanta in 2013 and spent 13 years there while the salon grew from Buckhead to Sandy Springs. She trained under the salon's owner, Kevin Miraglia, and took early classes with several well-known brands and hairstylists. After most of her career at one salon, she opened Jaye Hair & Co after nearly 14 years in the industry.

Booking happens by email or Instagram, and the salon books all of a client's services itself so the menu items and timing are set correctly. Each appointment is confirmed by email and text, with reminders before the day. New color clients send current hair photos, up to three inspiration photos, and six months of color history before booking, and pay a $75 deposit that is applied to the appointment.

New extension clients attend a 30-minute consultation before extension services are scheduled. The consultation is a $75 deposit that goes toward the first appointment if they book.

Cancellations made within 48 hours are charged 50% of the service cost, and same-day cancellations are charged the full scheduled services. A no-call, no-show is charged the full service cost to the card on file, and a deposit of 50% is required for rebooking afterward. Arriving more than 20 minutes late means the appointment is rescheduled, with 50% of the service cost charged.
